Overview

Jesse's El Taco De Mexico, nestled at 112 W 7th St in Oxnard, CA, stands out as an authentic Mexican eatery that delivers honest, no-frills flavors that reflect traditional street-style cuisine. This modest spot attracts locals and visitors alike who crave genuinely crafted tacos and burritos made with care. Its intimate space means most diners either settle in quickly or take their meals to-go, adding a sense of casual community buzz.

The menu showcases Mexican staples, but what truly defines Jesse's is its mastery of meat-centric dishes, notably Pastor Chorizo and Tacos Al Pastor. The Pastor Combination Plates and Taco Plates come with classic accompaniments—beans, rice, lettuce, sour cream, and guacamole—supporting the richly spiced meats without overwhelming. Guests often praise the Carne Asada Burrito and the inventive Pastor Nachos, which combine layers of smoky and savory notes with satisfying textures.

Jesse's also embraces lesser-known favorites like Cabeza and Lengua tacos, elevating them with a thoughtful meat-to-connective tissue ratio that ensures tenderness and flavor. This attention to texture and authenticity sets it apart from typical taquerias. The freshly made tortillas, slightly sweet in character, balance the lively salsas served alongside, including a notable salsa verde. Complementing the meal is a refreshing Horchata, which offers a cool, creamy counterpoint to the bold flavors.

The experience here is grounded in simplicity and tradition. Paper plates and no-frills service create an accessible atmosphere where the food shines brightest. It's a place frequented by those who appreciate genuine Mexican street fare—whether stopping by for a hearty breakfast plate, a quick lunch, or an indulgent burrito. The steady flow of patrons throughout the day testifies to Jesse’s consistent quality and reasonable prices.

For anyone seeking an authentic taste of Mexico in Oxnard, Jesse’s El Taco De Mexico is a small, hardworking establishment that holds firm to its roots. Despite its humble surroundings, it promises satisfying meals, from classic Huevos Rancheros to the robust Bomb Burrito de Carnitas. While seating may be limited, the takeaway option guarantees you won’t miss out on a rich, flavorful meal that honors tradition with every bite.

Stopped in for a quick lunch, this is a no-frills taco shop, serving good food on paper plates, just what I was looking for. The sign of a good taco shop is determined by the meat they serve, Cabeza is a good sign, Lengua is a bonus. Jesse's does them both and they do them well. I look at the meat to connective tissue ratio and Jesse's is mostly meat. Both were very tender and with a good flavor. Classically served with onions and cilantro with a salsa verde and tortillas with a slight sweetness. It was all good, being from San Diego, I had to put my expectations on a lower level. If these were served in San Diego I would give them a 4 out of 5. The drawbacks would be too many onions, the tortillas and they didn't have Mexican Coke (Coke in a glass bottle). All in all I would eat here again, hopefully on a weekend so I can try the Menudo.

First time. My burrito, the tortilla, was a bit chewy. Everything else was good

Small hard working people at the helm. Very few seats so be prepared to take food with you even if that was not the intended plan. The beans were super interesting and delicious.

GOOD FOOD, GOOD PRICES FOR A SMALL PLACE. CORNER OF OXNARD BLVD AND 7th STREET. ALWAYS BUSY, WITH PEOPLE IN AND OUT ALL DAY. FOOD IS SUPRISINGLY GOOD. I ENJOY THEIR BREAKFAST PLATES IN THE MORNINGS AND THEIR BURRITOS ARE VERY GOOD.

Yea this is a fun little downtown spot. Al Pastor burrito, but the asada taco on the side was clutch. Walking distance from Heritage Square, right across from Billiards. Looking forward to having nacho fries next time.
